DimCheck

Package Surcharge Checker

Enter your package and see exactly which surcharge thresholds it is near or has crossed — with the distance to each one. Deterministic rule checks only; no estimated dollar amounts.

How to read the statuses

  • TRIGGERED — the package meets the carrier's published condition. The surcharge applies.
  • NEAR — within the near band (1 in for sides, 2 in for length + girth, 2 lb for weight, 5% for volume). Small changes matter here.
  • SAFE — comfortably below the threshold.
  • UNKNOWN — the carrier does not publish this check or the value is unavailable.

What is NOT included

DimCheck does not estimate surcharge dollar amounts or final invoice totals, and it does not model shape-based rules it cannot verify from dimensions and weight alone (like packaging-material or irregular-shape charges). Fees vary by zone, service, and season — always confirm in the carrier's current rate guide.

Relevant rules

Every threshold shown here comes from structured carrier-rule configuration with effective dates and official sources — browse them all on the carrier rules page.

Thresholds carry dates — because they change

The rules behind the statuses are not static. USPS reworked its nonstandard fees on July 12, 2026; FedEx added a 10,368 in³ volume trigger to Additional Handling on January 12, 2026; DHL Express added its 80 cm second-side Oversize criterion on January 1, 2026. Each threshold stores its own effective date and official source, and DimCheck re-verifies them weekly — the FedEx surcharge guide and 2026 changes guide explain the reasoning behind the most consequential ones.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between TRIGGERED, NEAR, and SAFE?

TRIGGERED means the package meets a carrier's published condition and the surcharge applies. NEAR means the package sits within the tool's near band — 1 inch for side thresholds, 2 inches for length + girth, 2 lb for weight, and 5% for volume — where small packaging changes can flip the result. SAFE means the package is comfortably below the threshold. UNKNOWN means the carrier does not publish that check or the value cannot be derived from dimensions and weight.

Which surcharges can this tool check?

Every surcharge DimCheck can verify deterministically from dimensions and weight: FedEx Additional Handling and Oversize, UPS Additional Handling and Large Package, USPS nonstandard length and cubic volume fees, and DHL Overweight Piece and Oversize Piece. It deliberately does not estimate dollar amounts or final invoice totals — fees vary by zone, service, and season, so the tool reports thresholds and distances, and leaves pricing to the carrier's current rate guide.

How do I know these thresholds are current?

Each threshold in the rule configuration carries its own effective date and at least one official source, last verified August 30, 2026. A weekly monitor fetches every official source page and hashes the relevant text; when a page changes, the change is flagged for manual review before any rule is updated. The carrier rules page shows every threshold with its source and date, and the guide to 2026 rule changes summarizes what moved most recently.
